Inside The Land pavilion in Epcot’s Future World West is a relaxing, and yes educational, attraction called Living With the Land. I for one can’t seem to keep a cactus alive, but that doesn’t mean that this attraction doesn’t interest me. Actually, my love of food and cooking with fresh ingredients made me really appreciate this ride.
Guests load into a boat vehicle and first ride through the various biomes of our world (such as the rainforest, the desert, grasslands) and learn how the different areas together make up our ecosystem. Next, guests are taken past scenes of farming as it once was in the past and how it is today. Most of this is shown to us through films as we ride through an area similar to a farmhouse.
Finally, guests are able to see how farming techniques are being studied for the future. Some plants are grown without soil, instead having nutrients sprayed directly onto their roots. Others are being grown using settings not common for the particular plant such as sandy soil. A lot of the vegetables grown inside the Land’s greenhouse are actually served in the Land’s restaurant The Garden Grill which we will focus on next week.
Living With the Land may be a considered an educational attraction but it is definitely worth the ride. Afterall, Epcot is all about learning more about our community of tomorrow.
