Last week we showed you the exterior facelift that transformed the former Yakitori House into Katsura Grill and today we are going inside to grab a bite to eat.
The first thing you will notice on the inside is the new seating arrangement. A large communal picnic-like table divides the center of the room and encourages families to sit together while the sides and back of the room are lined by smaller tables with individual chairs. The new seating is pleasing to the eye but occasionally unpractical; the inside dinning area has not been expanded and the new bulky tables and chairs can be problematic during the busy evening hours. On a bright note the lighting throughout the room is much more pleasing than the Yakitori House; illuminating up-lighting has been added along with some very modern fixtures that help to open up the cramped room.
The menu has seen a number of updates as well. One entrée addition is the Teriyaki Salmon served with fresh vegetables and steamed white rice. The portions for this dish were more than satisfying, preparation was spot on and the flavors are very nice. Another new entrée choice is the Chicken Cutlet Curry.
The sushi options have narrowed quite a bit from the Yakitori House menu; the lone Sushi Combo Meal with three pieces of Nigiri Sushi (Shrimp, Tuna and Salmon) and choice of California or Spicy Tuna roll is now the only option for sushi lovers. While not a bad sushi offering, the dish is not exactly memorable.
All food aside, the best part of Katsura Grill is its wonderful location. High above the beautiful Japan Pavilion it is perfect for slowing down, enjoying the soothing sounds of running water, and at times delicate moon-filled sky. The food is just the icing on the cake.
